The platform – The foundation of everything

Uniform and Level Surface

The primary goal of having a custom-built platform was to create a uniform and level surface for setting up a sleeping area. Since once the seats are folded down, the IONIQ 5 does not provide a perfectly flat surface, it became necessary to add this feature.

The concept is quite simple. At one end, it rests directly on the folded-down rear seats. At the opposite end, blocks are added to raise it sufficiently to correct the angle. Several blocks are thus fixed under the platform to ensure proper weight distribution and to accommodate various mechanisms where portions of the platform are assembled with hinges.

Sections with Hinges

Despite the addition of this platform, I wanted to maintain access to the storage space under the trunk floor. To allow for this, the rear section can be folded down using the hinges.

It was also important to keep a rear seat to accommodate a comfortable workspace inside the car. Once again, thanks to another section of the platform attached with hinges, it can be folded down to use the rear seat.

Dedicated Base for the Wheel

To securely store my wheel, there is a dedicated storage space for it. Inserting the wheel through the side door takes just two seconds. The charging cable is always accessible there. As a result, I always have a wheel with a SOC of 100%. This is ideal for unexpected adventures!

Storage Space

Given the shape of the car under the platform and the empty space created by the blocks that elevate the rear of the platform, it's possible to store equipment there. At the back, my folding table can be easily stowed away. On the side, because there is an angle with the folded seats, it is perfect for inserting the Starlink antenna, which is also angular in shape. For these two items, their storage space is ideal for securing them during long hours on the road and allowing me to access them quickly without complicated handling.
